Plant during spring in moist, loamy, well-draining, slightly acidic soil. A pH in the vicinity of 6.0 is suitable. Amend poor soil with compost. Water whenever the top one to two inches of soil are dry. The ground should remain consistently moist. During spring, apply a low-nitrogen fertilizer such as a 5-10-10 to encourage better production of this astilbe’s florets. A long blooming perennial, Younique™ Ruby Red Astilbe blooms once. As a result, deadheading, unless for appearance, is not needed. The dried flowers provide continued interest during the winter. If grown in a container, divide and transplant every 3 to 4 years.
