The Wine Festival Iris or Iris germanica is a bearded Iris that adds height, good looks, and a sweet fragrance to an outdoor space. The predominantly purple petals have whitish-gold stippling on the beards. The flowers bloom in mid-spring and continue throughout the summer. Expect another flush of flowers later in the summer or early fall when grown in warmer climates. Green, sword-shaped leaves complement the flowers.Plant irises in beds and borders, or create a stunning mass planting. This plant is drought tolerant, ensuring minimal maintenance once acclimated. Pollinators, like butterflies and hummingbirds, are attracted to the lovely blooms, while foragers, like deer and rabbits, generally leave this plant alone. Grow the Wine Festival Iris as a perennial in zones 3 through 9.Wine Festival Iris CarePlant this sun-loving iris in a spot that receives full to partial sun. Water the Wine Festival Iris weekly or when the top few inches of soil are dry. The soil should be rich, moist, and well drained. Feed the plant using a balanced fertilizer in the spring, and again in midsummer after the first round of flowers fade.Deadhead the plant, removing spent flowers to encourage a second flush of blooms. Remove dead growth and trim the foliage to 6 inches about the soil line in the fall after the second round of flowers fades. Divide the plant every few years as needed in the fall.Wine Festival Iris SpacingThe Wine Festival Iris has an upright growth habit and will stand 36 to 48 inches tall. Space plants 18 to 24 inches apart for a lush and continuous look.Wine Festival Iris InformationUSDA Hardiness Zones: 3 – 9Plant Type: PerennialsLight Exposure: Partial Sun to Full Sun (At Least 5 Hours of Direct Sunlight)Mature Height: 3 – 4 FeetMature Spread: 18 – 24 InchesMature Spacing: 18 – 24 InchesHabit: ClumpingFlower Color(s): Pink, White, Yellow, PurpleFoliage Type: HerbaceousFoliage Color(s): GreenSeasonal Interest: Spring Flowering, Summer Flowering, Fall FloweringWatering: AverageResists: DeerTolerates: DroughtAttracts: Butterflies, HummingbirdsContainer Role: ThrillerUses: Borders, Containers, Mass PlantingFeatures: Attracts Pollinators, Cut Flowers, Fragrant, Low MaintenanceBrand: Common Name: Wine Festival IrisOther Name(s): Reblooming Bearded IrisScientific Name: Iris germanica ‘Wine Festival’
